First pressing labels of the 1969 UNITED ARTISTS motion picture score to MIDNIGHT COWBOY (UAS 5198) are salmon and orange red.

Opening track of the LP, Harry Nilsson''s definitive cover of Fred Neil''s "Echoes of My Mind" (retitled here "Everybody''s Talkin"), was used for the film''s title sequence. A different, shorter version is heard during the picture''s final scene. This crossover hit reached #2 on Billboard''s Adult Contemporary and #6 on their Pop chart. After inclusion here it won a Grammy, as did John Barry''s title song for the movie , a tune that features a bluesy harmonica throughout. Another orchestral highlight, Barry''s playful "Florida Fantasy" evokes images of Ratso Rizzo''s daydream of warmer climes in which he footraces Joe Buck on the beach (and wins!) and is the center of attention at a deluxe seaside resort.

The Groop, performers of "A Famous Myth" and "Tears and Joys," is not the Aussie folk-rock trio but perhaps some anonymous studio singers (no web info available on them). Lead vocalist of the NYC blues/rock band Elephant''s Memory, Michal Shapiro, was born in Israel. In 1972, this somewhat retooled quintet backed John Lennon on his SOME TIME IN NEW YORK CITY (SVBB 3392) double-LP. Elephant''s Memory''s druggy "Old Man Willow" is a track that features Michal''s soprano vocal. Halfway through, the song becomes a raucous jazz jam but eventually returns to its original spacey groove.

SIDE ONE
[2:30] Everybody''s Talkin'' - Nilsson
[3:46] Joe Buck Rides Again - John Barry
[3:22] The Groop - A Famous Myth
[3:52] Fun City - John Barry
[2:46] Leslie Miller - He Quit Me Man
[2:15] Elephants Memory - Jungle Gym at the Zoo

SIDE TWO
[2:34] Midnight Cowboy - John Barry
[7:03] Elephants Memory - Old Man Willow
[2:08] Florida Fantasy - John Barry
[2:29] The Groop - Tears and Joys
[1:57] Science Fiction - John Barry
